The Kennel Club has learnt of Merseyside Constabulary's intention to invoke its threatened seven-day dangerous dogs 'amnesty' – or in reality a seven-day dog cull. The Kennel Club is appalled by Merseyside's decision and somewhat bewildered that it has not taken on board any advice that it asked for from the Kennel Club as to how to protect the public against dangerous dogs. |

Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, condemns the breeding of dogs for fighting and supports measures to bring the full force of the law against the breeders of such dogs. Dog attacks occur as a result of a dog's training, upbringing and environment. All dog owners should be encouraged to be responsible owners, regardless of the breed of dog. |

Scottish SPCA Concern Over "Pit Bull" Hysteria |
The recent tragic death of a child by a pit bull terrier has provoked a widespread panic relating to “pit bull” type dogs and Scottish SPCA staff are concerned at the level of confusion and hysteria.
There are many dogs which may resemble pit bulls. Most will not actually be pit bull terriers but some form of cross breed. Indeed, it is often difficult for experts to say if a dog is a pit bull or not. |
