Microchipping

All dogs in England to get free microchips

Following the announcement from DEFRA that all dogs will get free microchips below is dnb's response.

deed not breed agree that compulsory microchipping will make it easier to reunite lost dogs with their owners and we welcome this, however for enforcement to be effective, clear guidelines should be set to clairfy exactly who is responsible for informing the microchipping company of the new owners details and within what timeframe.

We would like this to be the current owners responsibility in much the same way as the log book system works for car owners.

Rather than focusing on the negatives, such as how this will be enforced, we should be concentrating on the positive aspects and benefits of microchipping dogs.
Dogs Trust already have a huge campaign offering free chipping at their rehoming centres and various events and this will continue and expand in the lead up to 2016.
